In 2021, NYC Upper Manhattan nonprofit Uptown Stories was about to launch a new website for Uptown Ink, a website featuring student writing, but the original developer was no longer available.
I stepped in to quickly complete the custom theme and launch the website. The project was challenging. The site is built with PHP and WordPress’s REST API.
The work involved debugging theme issues, adding a taxonomy for student authors, refactoring code and enqueuing scripts and adding additional Load More buttons. I added GeneratePress Premium to make it easier for future volunteers to maintain the website.
