Uptown Stories

In 2019, NYC Upper Manhattan nonprofit Uptown Stories posted on the Catchafire skills-matching platform looking for technical help with a sluggish and challenging WordPress website. The website problems were distracting Uptown Stories staff from their mission of providing young writers the chance to discover and develop their inner voices.

After working on the site, I offered to rebuild it to improve its performance and make maintaining it easier. They left a slow web host, and in 2020, I completely rebuilt their website. This involved converting the website from WP Bakery to a website using the GeneratePress theme with Elementor and the WordPress block editor, and creating a custom child theme. The design reflected the original site’s design.

For four years (November 2019 to December 2023), I worked with Uptown Stories to keep their website up to date and secure. I love their mission and I’m lucky to have met the amazing women running this incredible organization in person.
